Did you know that one-third of all global food is wasted annually?
The Good Shit Company produces kick-ass sustainable spirits from wasted bread. We believe food waste can be upcycled in exciting ways to encourage more conscious consumption, to help our planet shift from wasteful consumption to a more circular one.

Good old bread, new spirit
Sh*t Vodka is a very smooth spirit.
Sh*t-yeah: Each bottle contains more than 1 kg of good old bread.* Nice soft and oily mouthfeel with a good viscous body and a taste with hints of baked bread. A lovely finish of honey and grains. Very smooth and pure, no burn.
* Bread from overproduction, which our food system thinks is Sh*t, but we don’t.
Same old bread, fresh flavour
Sh*t Gin is a super fresh Dry Gin.
Sh*t-yeah: Each bottle contains more than 1 kg of good old bread.* Very bright taste of soft nutty and baked bread aromas with a juniper core and a touch of bergamot and floral over the top. Dried spice and peel on the finish.

One of the most wasted food types is bread, with over 10 million tons (≈ 2 million elephants) being wasted globally every year.
In a special process, we ferment and distil good old bread from overproduction that has been stupidly discarded by our food system. By turning waste into taste, our spirits enable you to drink responsibly: Truly responsibly!
United against food waste
We are a very proud stakeholder of the Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling Foundation (United Against Food Waste Foundation).
Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling joins forces and expertise with companies from the entire chain, knowledge institutions, governments and civil society organisations for one common goal: to reduce food waste in the Netherlands by 50% by 2030 compared to 2015. In doing so, it makes the Netherlands a leader in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3.

One of the most wasted food types is bread, with over 10 million tons (≈ 2 million elephants) being wasted globally every year. Did you know that approximately half of total food waste occurs at the consumption stage? The best way you can reduce waste is to prevent it. Some easy tipps: Only buy what you really need, preserve food longer, recycle leftovers and avoid wasting edible food. Or simply drink good old bread ;-)

All the bread we distil is still in a good consumable state, is hygienically perfect, and is no more than 1-2 days old. The bakery only provides quality bread from misproduction and yesterday's bread that was taken off the shelves. A common term for this is “overproduction” or “surplus”.

All our overproduced bread comes from a nearby bakery. This way, we keep the environmental impact as low as possible while creating maximum taste.

As a base ingredient, we purely use good old bread. The bread is finely shredded and subsequently fermented in a special process before it gets distilled. This is how it gets its unique flavour and aroma.

Sh*t Vodka and Sh*t Gin are spectacular spirits with a hint of fresh bread, reminding us of the fine smell of a bakery… in a bottle. Of course, our Sh*t Gin also contains all important ingredients that make a super fresh Dry Gin. Mmmh... sustainably delicious.

Yes, of course. Sh*t Vodka and Sh*t Gin go beautifully with other drinks and can be mixed without hesitation. Great taste, made from waste.

The bottles are partly made of recycled glass, and we plan to use them only temporarily. The bottle prints are kept as simple and similar as possible to minimise production efforts and waste, e.g. no paper for labels were used. But we don’t want to stop there. We keep the transportation of our goods to a minimum. The good old bread comes from a bakery less than 30 km away from the distillery where it also gets fermented. But this is only the beginning. In the future, our aim is to produce locally wherever our spirits can be purchased.

Sh*t Vodka and Sh*t Gin made from wasted bread are the beginning. But we are already thinking ahead, because there is much more food waste that can be upcycled. Future products could be soft drinks, clothing, furniture, or anything else; we don't set ourselves any limits.
